After a successful Deaf World Cup tournament with GB Deaf Women’s winning the bronze medal after an intense play off against Poland, the squad had no idea that they would also grab hold of a winning Golden Ticket to grant access to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory charity ball organised by the James Milner Foundation. Our special reporter, Gemma Newson reports.
Last Sunday, the women’s squad joined James Milner in Manchester to help celebrate his annual Charity Ball to help raise money for charities supported by JMF. Looking glamourous, the girls got the chance to meet and personally thank James for his generous donation to support GB Deaf Women’s Football Team’s trip to Italy in the summer.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory themed night started with a blast, being greeted by Oompa Loompa and Mr Wonka himself, and the players got a chance to take in the wonderful scenery and decorations before making their way into the Factory, for a 3-course meal. After taking their seats, the guests were introduced to the evening hostess, Denise Van Outen and welcomed by James Milner. Throughout the evening the guests were entertained by some very talented performers including the fantastic sports impressionist Darren Farley, magician Ben Hanlin, the amazing pop singer Fleur East, and the one and only Lemar, while having the opportunity to make a bid in the silent auction.
After the delicious meal, the squad had the chance to mingle with the famous faces, and grab as many photo opportunities they could managed with Liverpool Football Club and Manchester City stars. They even got Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp to join them for a bash on the bumper cars, which he delightedly accepted.
At the closing of the night, the squad thanked both James Milner and his agent, Matthew Buck for all their support and for the invitation for a wonderful evening at the Charity Ball and the girls wished James the best for the remaining of his season.
